Perfect ? Think twice...

She was perfect. Perfect , in everything. She had blue eyes, the colour of which reminded one of the deep blue oceans only difference being the depth. Hers were deeper as if hiding the entire world in them. Looking into them , one would feel lost, tranced. Her hair , long and lustrous . So soft , more like velvet. The sun was smiling at her, the rays making her face gleam as she passed down the street . Smile , not leaving her lips even for a minute. She would always be the center of attraction for all those who knew her , for many others who had started noticing her. Passerby's not missing a chance to catch a glimpse of the girl who looked heavenly.Walking carefree, with her beautiful tresses falling down , playing among themselves, hiding most of her face , she looked serene. One look at her and suddenly the world seemed a kinder place to live. Happy, as one would describe her to be. 'Lovely girl, she is' , as some would say. She won the hearts of the people without even trying. Swaying away with the wind , she kept on walking. 'Why dosen't she talk ?' I heard one of the women say. 'She looks arrogant,' said one of the ladies, disgusted. 'Does she live alone?' , i inquired. My curiosity taking the best of me. 'Yes, i guess, who knows. We've never seen her talking to anyone. She never has visitors and she hardly comes out', Was the reply i got from the neighbours. Confused , i headed back to my hotel, my mind not being able to forget that face. Maybe, there was something about the girl , hidden from the world. Maybe that lively smile was a disguise , to fool people. Maybe behind that pretty face , was a girl not wanting to look herself in the mirror. Maybe , she hated everything about her that others seemed to love.  Maybe, she hated the world and not wanting to be a part of it was the only way she wanted to survive. Maybe, she was not what she appeared to be. Maybe, she used her smile as a weapon to prove her strength even though she cried herself to sleep ? Maybe, she was going through hell , heaven being a distant dream. Maybe, she was scared. Maybe , she was fighting her own battle, losing all of them.  Maybe , the world to her appeared to be cruel . Maybe, she hated the way she lived and failed trying to re-build her life. Maybe , she was hopeless , lost and maybe , maybe she wasn't perfect afterall ??

 THAT NIGHT

I was angry. An argument with my friend at a party got out of hand. Things woudn’t have gotten worse if the tone in which it was said would have been taken into account. It is rightly said” To err is human”. Well I don’t put all the blame on her . Truth has its own forms. Infuriated as i was i dashed out of the room, down the stairs, through the hallway and in no time i found myself walking down the road. I felt a gust of cold wind rush through my face, it’s when i realized how cold it was. It was midnight , stars shining with all its blaze and the moon appeared as beautiful and luminous as ever. I saw a number of people sleeping on the streets, people with no shelter ,wrapped up in thin blankets trying to protect themselves from this BITTER cold. Ignoring the world around me, i kept on walking.
“This was the third time this month that we fought, i wasn’t going to take it anymore”. I thought to myself. My mind on war, preoccupied with the events that had followed, i didn’t notice a girl sitting on the footpath .
As soon as i heard a cry i looked around to see, where it was coming from. My eyes met the glaze of the girl who looked at me with frightened eyes, eyes that were sore due to constant weeping, eyes that spoke more than words could. I went up to her. It’s when i realized the dilemma she was in. Her clothes were all torn and shaggy , her hair brittled and dirty. Her little feet were swollen and i could see cuts and bruises on them which she had got walking barefoot. She looked scared and hungry, helpless as I  was I stood there staring at the little girl in utter disbelief.
For a moment neither of us spoke, she because i was a complete stranger to her and i because the sight that i saw left me speechless. After a few minutes of silence , I  gathered the strength to talk to her. At first she didn’t speak, I  could
See the horror in her eyes, my presence was not liked by her. I somehow wanted to help her. A part of me said that I  should go back home ,it was getting late while the other half of me felt a sense of obligation towards her. I closed
My eyes and took a deep breath , i had taken my decision i wasn’t going to leave this poor child alone in this cold. I  gave her a pack of chips i had in my purse.( I wonder how junks come to the rescue even in adverse situations.) However, before i could hand over the packet to her , she snatched it from me. I watched her empty the packet , the way she started licking it. She hadn't  had a meal for days, which was evident. I regretted having eaten the other packet . She looked at me again, but this time her eyes told a different story................
Once Upon a Time... Nothing Happened !

It was a day like any other. In fact it was a day so extremely like any other that it became weird. Afterward, everyone agreed it had been the most unlikely day in the history of humankind.

It was the day nothing extraordinary happened. The ongoing wars didn't have any significant battles. It was a day without terrorstrikes or murders. No floods or earthquakes occured. Nobody famous died or gave birth or even announced a pregnancy. There were no royal weddings, new Hollywood romances or break-ups. No elections were won or even held. A day without demonstrations, strikes or riots. It was a boring day for Wall Street and consorts. NASA didn't launch anything, no scientific breakthroughs were made and no new iGadgets were released.

No popstars were caught on camera showing their genitalia in public, no famous band released a new album and no long awaited movie had it's theatrical release.

No spokesman of any religion said something stupid to upset the rest. Nobody claimed to have seen a UFO, Bigfoot or the appearance of the Holy Virgin in dirty underpants.

It was a day without news.

People didn't notice at first, because all the news in the newspapers had happened the day before. It became clear when the new day was a few hours old. No websites found anything new to publish. There was only old news to gather. After the fuzz about yesterday's news had passed, Twitter became awkwardly silent. Only insignificant personal stories were shared by users of social media.
Press Agencies awaited incoming copy from journalists around the world, but they really had nothing to report about.

And then it started... people were wondering what was happening. Was it a glitch in the Matrix? Was God on a break? Was it the silence before the storm? Before the Apocalypse?

Some even tried to have their fifteen minutes of fame, but none succeeded, because for some reason their actions were only discovered a day later . Nobody was interested in these attention seekers anyway, because... well... this was the day nothing happened!

When the evening news came on, it was the most watched show in the history of television, although it had only one item. Why did nothing happen today?

When the first timezone was reaching midnight, people sat together, holding hands in fear of what might come. But nothing happened, as it had been the habit all day. The day just gave way to a new one that really was just like any other day, in the sense that it was UNlike any other day, for all the things that happened.

"The Day Without News" became the most talked about event in history. It gave birth to books, movies and cults.

For some though, something DID happen that day. Because in a day without news, they started noticing what was going on in their own lives.

BLACK

IT  was dark. for a minute i coudn't make up my mind. Was i dreaming ? Or was it some kind of a place i was locked up in, without any air, devoid of any light. I tried opening my eyes. I coudn't. I tried consoling myself, making believe that it was a dream. A nightmare that would soon dissappear the moment i wake up. I was wrong . It didn't. My head felt heavy. As if i was hit hard by something.  Soon things started becoming less clear, blurred.
Once again i tried opening my eyes, putting in some extra effort. I still coudn't. I decided the only way out was to get myself accustomed to the darkness. Ignoring the pain, that had by now taken its toll.
Neither could i see, nor was i able to move. Paralysed, i lay still.
By now i  had lost all the strength to get up, to be able to open my eyes or move. Soon i was sleeping or maybe i WASN'T.

Everytime , i think of it , i am bound to believe i was dreaming, bound to accept that it was unreal.
But somehow, somewhere i feel , i wasn't imagining, i wasn't dreaming. IT HAD HAPPENED.
